Help us control invasive species in our nature preserves! Invasive plants are non-native species that overtake an area, often outcompeting their native counterparts and reducing biodiversity within the environment. As part of this training program, you will learn how to identify, map, and control invasive plant and insect species. We will begin the evening with an indoor training at the Steep Rock House (116 Christian St. New Preston, CT) followed by an outdoor hike where we will identify various invasive species and demonstrate control techniques. You will then be assigned a section of one of Steep Rock Association's nature preserves, which you will monitor for the presence of invasive species over a one-year period, documenting your observations and implementing control measures where feasible. Participants should wear/bring hiking shoes, a water bottle, and outdoor clothing. Light refreshments will be available.
